night time creeper

Boo has been doing pretty good about sleeping in here toddler bed. But when she wakes up in the middle of the night (usually closer to when GG wakes up) she thinks she can sleep in our bed (we have let her because it's hard to explain to her to go to back to her bed when her dad is awake, so I hope by letting her lay in bed with me she'll sleep longer..because 5:00 is much too early for her or myself to be awake.).

Anyway, so when she wakes up in the middle of the night I coax her back into her bed and while I leave her in her room to hopefully fall asleep, I lay awake in my bed afraid that a little child will creep up on me and scare me half to death. It's seriously freaks me out-I noticed my heart pounding last night in anticipation of being crept up upon. It's feels like when you hear a sound in the middle of the night, and you hold your breath to see if you can hear footsteps approaching you. ahhhh. I know my child shouldn't freak me out like that but it does. And the thing I'm more scared of is scaring her by my reaction to her sudden appearance staring at me.  I have no idea how my mom made it through. I know I stood by her bedside more than I can count whispering, "mom", "Mom", MOm", "MOM".  Now, times that by 12 kids doing to that to her over the years. No wonder she never could get a restful night.

Is anyone else like this? Or am I totally pathetic for curling up to my sleeping husband for protection from my daughter?

Maddie is the silent creeper. You don't hear her at all. You just wake up to the feeling of being watched. She never says anything, or asks for anything. She just stares at you until you wake up and take her back to bed. I sometimes wonder how long she's been standing there. That creeps me out. I have gasped in surprise at times, but she doesn't seem to mind. Instead of putting her in her bed or your bed you could make her sleep on the floor like Mom and Dad had us do. We do that with our kids. None of them have slept in our bed since Jacob.

I totally know what you are talking about!! One night it was late and I couldn't sleep and I was reading a crazy scary new article and I suddenly hear this loud breathing and footsteps. It totally freaked me out!! It was just Sam needing something but it was really scary... So I always hope he doesn't come in bcause I would scream too!!

I think that is HILARIOUS that you worry about her creeping in and scaring you!

Marley has only scared me once and that was because I heard her come in but thought she went over to her dad's side (because he was still awake with the laptop on). So I was drifting back to sleep when she said Mom right at my face it scared me. Then we all laughed so hard. Me mostly because my heart was pumping and I felt silly for my little daughter scaring me but, she wasn't where I thought she was. It was funny.

I agree with top comment-er (your sister?) have her sleep on the floor next to your bed. I think letting kids in your bed anytime of night/morning can open a can worms. Just my opinion though. I do let Marley snuggle with me when she wakes me up at a decent time in the morning. For me that's after 7:00, for you that may be 5:00 and I LOVE snuggling with her!
